Hal ini diungkapkan  Kepala Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan Provinsi Papua, Ir. Astiler Maharadja belum lama ini di Jayapura.
“Kemungkinan di Timika (ikan) yang disungai-sungai itu ada tercemar bahan-bahan berbahaya,”bilang Astiler kepada tabloidjubi.com saat dicegat di Kantor Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan Papua, Dok VII Jayapura Utara Papua.
Dia mengakui hal itu berdasarkan penelitian dari Dinas Perikanan Mimika dan dari rekomendasi yang dikeluarkan diharapkan untuk ikan-ikan tersebut boleh dimakan, tapi jangan bagian perut dan isi ikan terutama  hati ikan karena banyak bahan beracun tinggal di dalam organ tersebut.
